The Reverend Joann H. Turner began her ministry on June 27, 2006 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She came from Webb Chapel United Methodist Church in the Kinston area of Lenoir County as pastor in charge. Reverend Turner is married to Marvin Louis Turner; a retired USAF officer and retired from U.S. Airways. He earned his BS degree in Aeronautical Management from Parks College in Illinois is 1956. They have lived in France, Hawaii and many states, and enjoy traveling overseas when possible.
They have two children: Debra L. Turner Strother, graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA; and a MEd from the University of Connecticut. David C. Turner has an associate degree in Political Science/Business and is pursuing his BS. Their five children are the "apple of the eye" of Reverend Joann and Marvin.
Reverend Turner earned a diploma from Rhema Bible School in 1992 and was ordained with Rhema Bible Church in 1995. She earned her Clinical Pastoral Education credentials after 15 months of training as an intern and resident at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia in 1996. Her BS in Church Ministries was earned from Mount Olive College in 2000, (magna cum laude), and she is an Adjunct Professor of Old Testament and New Testament since 2005. She earned her MDiv degree from Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina in 2004. She has been a member of the North Carolina Conference UMC since June 2004. Since Reverend Turner's appointment to St. Paul UMC, she has taken a Pastoral Care in Community Course from Duke Endowment held at Lenoir Hospital in Kinston, NC, from October 2, 2006 to May 31, 2007. She was commissioned as a Stephen Minister on May 13, 2007 at St. Paul UMC, and is a Supervisor Group Facilitator.
Churches served have been Webb Chapel UMC; and Field Education positions as an associate with Lake Waccamaw UMC, Fremont UMC, and Saulston UMC. She was associate pastor at Rhema Christian Center in Lewisburg, West Virginia for two years.
Reverend Turner's love, gifts and graces are in pastoral ministry, visitation and serving in any capacity of the church as given to her by God and the United Methodist Church.
